U. S.
Senator 1949 - 1987
Russell Billiu
Long lies under a modest
headstone in Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.
He is the son of Louisiana Governor and U. S. Senator
Huey Pierce Long,
who has the largest memorial of any in Louisiana. He is the nephew of
Louisiana Governor
Earl Kemp Long,
who also has a very large memorial.
Russell Long was a
Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve during World War II. He was elected to the United
States Senate in late 1948 and served in that capacity until early 1987,
when he retired after almost forty years.
He was in
significant government service longer than his father and uncle combined.
After leaving political office, Senator
Long practiced law in Washington, D. C. and Baton Rouge, La. |
