John Holmes Overton, a United States Representative, May 12, 1931 to March 3, 1933 and then United States Senator from Louisiana, March 4, 1933 until his death on May 14, 1948. 

He was a native of Marksville, La, a graduate of Louisiana State University and earned a law degree from Tulane University.  He died in the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and is buried with his wife Ada Ruth Dismukes, his parents and many of his family in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pineville, Louisiana.

He was Huey Long's counsel in the impeachment action in 1929.
