Hollywood Cemetery
(HC001)
Richland, Virgina
Pictures by Barbara and Martin Gauthier
We remain in awe of the beautiful layout and of the loving maintenance in this cemetery. It dates from 1847. Views of the James River and
Richmond abound. Viewing, in person, hundreds of cemeteries over many years, we were not prepared for this beautifully
historic cemetery.
President James Madison has a beautiful site in Presidents Circle of Hollywood Cemetery. His pages will be added later.
Preisdent John Tyler is also located in Presidents Circle of Hollywood Cemetery. His pages will be added later.
These pages have 42 Louisiana Soldiers that did not survive Gettysburg or other battles and are buried in this cemetery. Also
included are two Union soldiers and one Confederate Navy soldier. Those three are not from Louisiana.
We walked only a tiny portion of this enormous cemetery consulting a list of 350 Louisiana Confederates
known to be here. We found 20 that were not on our list (surprises) and about 22 that were on our list. Burial plots are
laid out by battles with the Gettysburg area in this cemetery being the largest. LA soldiers are mixed in with 30,000+ soldiers across many battle areas.
For those with maps, we walked only the area to the north of the large monument to the
'CONFEDERATE DEAD'
by the Daughters of the
Confederacy.
Those wishing to continue the search for Louisiana Soldiers in this or any cemetery, please contact me and I will offer suggestions,
information and maybe help.

The small stones are markers with an engraved number corresponding to a soldiers name and details that is buried at that spot.
GETTYSBURG DEAD
Headstones awaiting installation. Several pallets of CSA Headstones arrive periodically for installation.
It is a guess that only 30% of the soldiers have headstones. Most of the others have stone markers
with a number.
