1824 - 1828 Henry Johnson and Elizabeth Rousby Key Johnson each had extended distinguished families. Elizabeth's nephew, Philip Barton Key, at age 18 became the manager of his father's sugar farms in Lafourche after his father Philip Barton Key's death on Acadia Plantation in 1855. He later became a Major in the Confederate Army, marrying Anna Maria Washington Thornton in 1861 during the war. Anna Maria is a descendant of Augustine Washington, brother of George Washington. She is the daughter of Charles Augustine Thornton and Cornelia Virginia Randolph. |
